Small Business Assistance News

The Filipino American Development Foundation launched the Business
Sense Ukol sa Negosyo
Workshop Series for Filipino small business owners

and entrepreneurs in April 2009. The workshop series aims to provide assistance,
information and support (advocacy and collaboration) in doing business
in San Francisco. The Business Sense Ukol sa Negosyo is supported in
partnership with Wells Fargo and APIBIS (Asian Pacific Islander

Business Information Services. Here’s the May Schedule:

Tagalog Classes for Adults and children planned for April - June 2009

The beginner conversational class at the Bayanihan Community Center emphasizes practical phrases and grammatical strategies that will get you speaking confidently within days. The class will cover greetings and introductions, description of people and places, stating preferences or non-preferences, counting, shopping, telling time and basic usage of verbs. By the end of the class, students would be able to formulate sentences, have a working vocabulary of about 100-600 words, and be able to carry on a basic conversation.

Instructor: Karen Llagas is a Native Tagalog and English speaker who grew up in the Philippines and is currently based in San Francisco. She has many years of teaching, interpreting and translating experience for different companies. She earned her BA from Ateneo de Manila in the Philippines and her MFA from Warren Wilson College in NC.

Volunteer Opportunities

1) VOLUNTEER: Serve Immigrant Seniors!!
Veterans Equity Center Immigrant Food Assistance!!
EVERY Thursday

VEC's weekly Food Distribution serves seniors and adults with disabilities.
We need volunteers to help set up, register and distribute food.

Shift 1: 9am to 10:30am
-unloading of food shipment into the Center
-sorting of produce and packaged goods
-preparation of stations for distribution

Shift 2: 12:45pm to 2:30pm
-check-in & registration
-distribution of food
-clean-up

Bilingual volunteers especially encouraged to come: Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog & Ilocano!
If you need to fulfill community service hours, Project 20 or just help your community, this opportunity is for you! If you are interested in volunteering for the Food Distribution, please call 415.255.2347 or respond to this email.
